The Team

Sarah Cleggett, Founder and Director, MGM.

Hello – I’m Sarah.

I am a mother of two inquisitive and loving little boys.

I have 15 years of experience as a social worker and social planner in both government and community-based settings.

I established MGM in September 2021 and now I’m a social entrepreneur. A title I am still growing into!

In my professional life, I started social work in drug and alcohol services, and psychiatric in-patient environments. Those early work settings confirmed to me how damaging the structural barriers in our society can be to the lives of vulnerable people and the importance of creating a supportive community. It confirmed for me the need for a social justice perspective in public policy.

I’ve since worked in local government, assessing and managing grants, delivering community projects, conducting social planning and developing social policy. Some of my highlights have included:

  • Helping a community garden to flourish
  • Growing a lifelong learning group for older people
  • Establishing a movie series with a volunteer team to bring classic cinema to the community
  • Supporting an advisory panel made up of people with lived experience of disability.

I am a trained breastfeeding educator and have facilitated groups for new mothers since 2018.

To further develop my understanding of matrescence and how to best support women during their transition to motherhood, I have undertaken training with Amy Taylor-Kabbaz and Katherine Eden.

I am completing a Master of Politics and Policy, with a research focus on improving outcomes for mothers in early motherhood and beyond.
